Old Brick House

The Old Brick House restaurant is housed in the oldest brick building west of the Mississippi River. We chose them because they appeared to be the only place open and some online reviews suggested they had great fried chicken.

We opted for the dinner buffet, which includes their fried chicken. The food was nothing special, but satisfied our hunger. The menu and buffet reminded me of what I remember of restaurants 30 years ago. If we pass by here again, I think I'll look for another option.

Chester Bridge

The Chester Bridge was completed in 1942, destroyed by wind in 1944, and a rebuild completed in 1946.

Sikeston Explosion

As we drove north in US Route 61 towards Sikeston, Missouri, a pillar of smoke appeared ahead of us. Just east of the town of Matthews, we were directed into another direction and had to adjust our plans for the day.

Abandoned Hayti Church

An abandoned church building in Hayti, Missouri, provokes questions about how and why it ended up abandoned. And then fleeting ideas about converting the building into a home. :)

Reynolds Park

On the river-side of the flood walls in Caruthersville, Missouri, we found Reynolds Park and roads closed due to the Mississippi River encroaching on what is normally dry land.

Little Pizza Heaven

Mike and Jean's Littla Pizza Heaven claims to have been "saving the world from mediocre pizza since 1980." I don't know about the world, but the pizza they served us suggests they have been serving the people of Caruthersville, Missouri, well,  The restaurant was packed. The pizza was delicious.

Table Rock Lakeshore

Turtles

Giant concrete turtles upon which kids of all ages can climb and play. What more do you need for some fun time out of the car while roadtripping?

I like turtles.
