Arroyo Burro Beach

Arroyo Burro Beach, also known as Hendry's Beach, is within a 15 minutes drive from downtown Santa Barbara. It made for a nice break from driving as we passed through the area. We stopped to play in the sun, sand, and surf before heading east into Los Angeles area traffic.

The beach is surfer, children, and dog friendly. Dogs are permitted to run off leash on the east end of the beach.

Feed emus.

But, please don't fight ostriches.

Reid Park Zoo

Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona, is my favorite zoo. I've never lived in Tucson but have been to this zoo more than any other. The zoo contains an impressive collection of animals yet is small enough that long hikes aren't required between exhibits.

World's Largest Ball of Twine

We drove hours out of our way to Cawker City, Kansas, to see one of the great wonders of the world: a ball of twine.  This isn't just any ball of twine. This is the World's Largest Ball of Twine

Cawker City's Main Street

Frank Stoeber wound 5,000 pounds of twine before giving the ball to Cawker City

The children can barely contain their excitement

Lottis Creek Campground

We came upon the Lottis Creek Campground while wandering the Rocky Mountains. It lies about 9 miles south of the Taylor Park Reservoir. It provided a perfect place to pitch our tent and enjoy a bit of campfire fun.
